nobody stopped me. so here it is. because I just redid my ranking graphics for my profile and WOW I CANNOT CHOOSE BETWEEN MIYUKI/REON/RYOU (so I just went by alphabet) and I adore them all so very much so. it's 4:21am and I have Emotions. okay. I'm just gonna go by no order at all but let's start with Miyuki because I already mentioned him
OKAY SO I LOVE MIYUKI SO VERY MUCH AND I FEEL IT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHY UNTIL YOU SEE HIS POV. Mezame no Ouja def sold me on him extra hard, it does say on his profile that he's quite stoic behind the easygoing exterior but you don't get the full scope of it until you spend some time in his head. a lot of that laid-back charm of his is actually ... sort of an act? not in the bad malicious way, but something he puts on to seem less serious than he actually is, it's very deliberate to both ease the tension and his mind
because he honestly doesn't think highly of himself at all; he says in Gyro's band story that he admires Reon for being able to say things like he's gonna quit because he feels like he needs Nayuta's music to rly go where he wants to go, and he's extremely serious about the things he does (both music and kickboxing), even if he started them for more superficial reasons. he says he wanted to join Gyro because he wants to be popular, but in actuality it was because Nayuta's music resonated with him. he very much wants to earn his place as Gyro's drummer and takes great pride in it!! but he doesn't rest on that achievement, he's always doing his absolute best
on the more fun side, he's just. a rly chill guy. yeah he's a flirt but he's the charming kind, not the creepy kind (a big achievement, I don't tend to like those kinds of characters lol). I would trust Miyuki to protect me in a dark scary alley. also!!!! he very deliberately took on the role of Gyro's mediator cause SOMEONE had to do it and it sure wasn't gonna be Kenta, and he cares so much about his bandmates, especially Reon, whom he sees as somewhat of a little brother, IT'S JUST ALL SO CUTE. HE'S SO CUTE.
without Miyuki I'm pretty sure Nayureon would have killed each other already. thank you for your service Miyuki. and also thank you for your wonderful cat/dog (official words not mine) dynamic with Kenta which is both funny and surprisingly productive at times
and now that I'm mentioning Kenta anyway, let's nyoom to him next!
Kenta's bio does him so very dirty. when I first read it, I was sure he was gonna be shipped with Nayuta (I mean he kinda is but not to the same degree as some bigger ships), but in actuality their dynamic is ... I don't even rly know what to call it but I love it a lot. there's a lot of trust there that I very much appreciate. anyway the point I was trying to make was Kenta can absolutely be cold and calculating for the sake of Nayuta's music and won't hesitate to let you go if Nayuta doesn't deem you worthy, but outside of music he cares SO MUCH. I've said before that Kenta is a very good person all things considered, but man did Gyro's band story hammer that home again ...
the big thing with Kenta imo is that he cares but doesn't like to show that he cares because he has a role to maintain. that's where Ryou comes in as sort of a bridge between him and the others which I'll get to later (and did I mention Gyro band story was very good aaaaa), but the important part is that Kenta is inherently pretty damn kind, to the point of being overbearing (see Wataru & Nayuta). in one of Reon's card stories he listens to him fanboy about a certain guitarist and even though Reon apologises for going on and on, he's happy to listen and even encourages him ... of course in the anime he did all sorts of things for Argonavis and Wataru just because it was the good thing to do ... his friendship with Ryou is the purest and most wonderful thing god GETTING HIGH story is also really good ANYWAY my point is Kenta is. kinda twofold
he can be cold, but he can also be very warm, depending on the situation. he keeps secrets from the other members because he deems them irrelevant and because he was trusted with them, and he's quick to dismiss Reon when he leaves the band (which has happened twice so far across canon and tbh I'm surprised it hasn't been more) because keeping Nayuta's music connected is the most important part but does he feel good about it?? absolutely not. because he cares. so very much.
and don't even get me STARTED on his relationship with Wataru I adore them they're the superior brother pair in argp and I'm saying this as a Kanata oshi
let's talk Ryou now cause he came up a bunch. Akenobo Ryou, the sweet, wonderful alien boy who may or may not be an actual angel. Ryou is one of the most intrinsically good people in this whole cast. boy just wants everyone to be happy!!! and he's very cute while doing just about everything!!!
with Ryou I think upon first meeting him it's easy to dismiss him as just the weird chuuni alien guy, but god he is SUCH a good character. more than anything, he's an empath. he's extremely good at telling how people feel, which helps him again build a bridge between the colder members of Gyro (Kenta & Nayuta) and the more down-to-earth ones (Reon & Miyuki). between all the weird space talk, most of the things he says are actually rly profound and wise?? you just need to know what he's actually saying. Ryou hovers somewhere in that void where he's simultaneously childish and mature, and I absolutely love it. he can touch and help people in his own way without ever losing the weirdness that makes him him!
he's also extremely talented with music, to the point where even Nayuta acknowledges a song he wrote as pretty good and people frequently call him a genius much like Rio, Ren, or Nayuta. he's just a different kind of genius. he's also got such a great healing presence, in ch1 of GH song story Kenta, who was upset due to agency things, feels better just being able to talk to him and then they write a song together just for fun and Ryou takes extra precautions to make sure it's a song every member of Gyro is gonna enjoy playing and DID I MENTION RYOU IS A VERY GOOD PERSON WHO JUST WANTS PEOPLE TO BE HAPPY
there is Nothing bad about Ryou. even if he was revealed to have a screwed up terrible backstory in which he was a horrible person for some reason, the guy he is right now is just. incredibly friend-shaped. I trust Ryou. he makes me smile. which is extra good because that's exactly what he wants. (and shoutout to spot-on casting, Akki is the most perfect Ryou they could have found)
okay I don't have a particularly good segue for this one so let's talk Reon now?? sure why not. MISONO REON IS JUST SOME GUY. I mean this in the best way possible. within this admittedly pretty bonkers band, Reon is the person who's the most ... normal (Miyuki's in second place though). of course he'd snap at Nayuta, any normal person would eventually get fed up with that ... but despite that, he's special in his own way because he's got the right mindset to put his pride aside for the sake of his dreams and Gyro's music.
if there's one thing the story makes clear, it's that Reon cares about Gyro. not so much about Nayuta as a person ... but about Gyro as a group, and about the music they make. in PREFACE he's initially the only one who's agitated at the other band for badmouthing them, in Mezame no Ouja after getting formally kicked out by Nayuta he realises that he wants to go back even though it isn't fun, in the band story something similar happens, and he's been shown practicing SO hard to live up to his expectations. because even if it's not as fun as Yuuto's band was, Gyro is the place where he belongs. it's only with Gyro that he can fulfill his dreams and play the music he wants to play
which is something he also talks about with Yuuto in one of his character stories! they both found their place, and there's no hard feelings between them, and they're so happy every time they see each other did I mention I love them very much aNYWAY-- Reon sees Nayuta as sort of a ... rival, kinda? someone he wants to surpass, in a way, even though their roles are very different. and to do that, there are just times when he has to yield ... which is actually the exact opposite from Yuuto, whose pride & steadfastness which I wrote a whole post about can be a huge roadblock as much as it can be a strength
also I mean have you seen him. Ryou is the cutest Gyro member, but Reon takes a very close second place. have you SEEN his croquette soba card. he nom. anyway I wanna be friends with Reon I think we'd get along very well
which only leaves Nayuta, huh ... what can you say about Nayuta that hasn't already been said? there's a reason he's as popular as he is lol. I mean, he's like 1.5 for me, not even 2 ... only just beaten out ever so slightly by Ren ... but I'll try my best to word it anyway even though a lot boils down to AAAAA
so Asahi Nayuta is. a very difficult person. well, he's pretty straightforward, but also not ... but definitely difficult to get along with. although neither Kenta nor Ryou seem to have much of a problem with him, actually ... they're so powerful ... and then there's Ren who simply does not care and Fuuta who also simply does not care but doesn't have Nanahoshi privileges (read: permission to talk to Nayuta sometimes) and their area conversations are SO funny let me tell you. uhm. I'm going off track
Nayuta actually has a lot of feelings, he's just really good at keeping them bottled up, probably also because he has his outlet in his music, otherwise he may have already exploded ... he puts his everything into his songs and I think that's why they resonate with so many people and why Gyro are as popular as they are (in-universe. 3d Gyro are popular because they're five loveable goofballs and their music slaps), and I have a tangent here about Ren that I'm cutting before I can go on it ... wow I've not said much about Nayuta yet at all, have I ...
I love perfectionist characters who are harsh on everyone and themselves, so it's kind of a miracle I didn't immediately realise Nayuta would end up being so high on my list ... because man does he demand a lot from others but more than anything does he work himself to the bone. as Felix once said, he really is like a knife sharpening himself only for his music ... to a fault, definitely. FAR AWAY was another extremely good song story (maybe my favourite of the ones I've read so far?) that went more into his feelings about his father, and he's able to work past them semi-productively through his songs but it really is the only outlet he has and we certainly haven't seen the last of that
and then his (kinda sorta self-imposed please just REST) health issues that made the rest of Gyro even consider (& get into a fight over) the idea of him having to quit ... Nayuta has been through a lot actually ... I've said this before, but Nayuta needs rest and a hug and he'll accept neither. please sleep, your schedule is almost as bad as Tomoru's ... I want an event that's just Nayuta & Tomoru sleeping for six chapters. they need it. they can bond over not saying a word because they'll both be asleep
on the flipside, despite not being a particularly light-hearted character, there's the sort of gap moe going on with Nayuta that I like to exaggerate for comedic effect ghdkgh HE IS JUST. HE IS JUST A CAT OKAY. MEOW. NYAYUTA-KUN. even his nekomimi go boing on his 3d model and his chibi animation ... and he's clearly on the same wavelength as Nyankotarou (who, by the way, has never been referred to as "Nayuta's cat", only "the cat who lives with Nayuta"). cat to cat communi-cat-ion. also the fact that his first instinct toward someone moving his heart is to fight them? or how he's just seemingly incapable of giving a proper interview because he just really does not wanna be there? cute. he's cute. in his own way. a very specific way, but. cute.
this segment feels like it's not making any sense but that's because Nayuta is incredibly hard to talk about?? he really shouldn't be, but he is?? I love his dedication, how hard he works, his brutal honesty, the depth of his emotions which we've really only seen in his songs up till now but are slowly unravelling with the stories, his interactions and how certain people (see Fuuta & Ren, did I mention I ADORE uni 1st yrs vocalist trio) can catch him off guard just like that ... and yet I can't really put it in words ... even going deeper into analysing him like I did the other Gyro members doesn't rly work because he's just Nayuta. I'm glad that he is, but he sure is being difficult even with me, huh ...
okay wOW so that's been 2300 words of possibly complete nonsense, I just. have so many feelings about GYROAXIA you don't even know. this doesn't begin to scratch the surface, I probably forgot half of it for each character, but it's now 5:17am and you will cut me some slack okay thank you
