Review: Double Rainbow

Double Rainbow

**Long read ahead** Wow...this story was amazing. It had humour, emotion, character development. Everything I hoped for. The whole catalyst for this was Arisa's grades getting worse because she spends a lot of her time with Popipa instead of studying. So what does she do? Make them have a concert on the day of the exams which leads to her being too overwhelmed and distancing herself from the rest of them.

I'm going to talk about ch 3-5 because what a rollercoaster of emotions those were. When Arisa lashed out at Rimi I got really surprised and emotional. Rimi running out of the basement made me so incredibly sad. We also got to see Arisa crying, which made me almost bawl my eyes out. Everyone was so awkward after what happened and the guilt that Arisa felt made her seem like such a more grounded character to me. She didn't just deflect it and blame it on her stress, she actually owned up to the fact that she was in the wrong. Tae just leaving practice in ch 5 because of the unproductivity and Arisa going shortly after made it seem like there really was only Kasumi and Saya left. Like Popipa wasn't there anymore...

Ch 6 was kind of a turning point for them. Kasumi worrying about the future of Popipa and Saya not wanting to see another one of her bands falling apart made the scene so emotional to watch. Saya talking about her emotions and her love to her band members made me appreciate her so much! The handholding scene was a very cute throwback to the Firework festival event and I'm happy it sticks around in the story as a way for them to communicate.

Kasumi not giving up through the entirety of Double Rainbow really shows why she's the main character. She cares so much about her friends and she doesn't want to any one of them hurt or sad. She brings them back together, she's the glue that holds it all in place. Her talking to Arisa, squeezing her hand to really show her true emotions. She can only sparkle when she's with them, she only wants to sparkle when she's with them. This story has made my appreciation for Kasumi even bigger than it already is. Kasumi I love you so much <3

At first, I was really shocked when Tae left their practice. I got worried and wondered what was going on with her. Maybe she was frustrated too? Finding out that she had spent almost every waking hour making a poster for their concert, a setlist and trying to sell tickets made me love her. She was kind of in the background but in the end, she really got a place to shine! I don't credit her enough when talking about Popipa but she is so much more than an airhead. She's hardworking, funny, caring and Double Rainbow made me see her for who she really is. O-Tae thank you for being you!

Arisa was the catalyst for the whole story but in the end, she developed as a character. She blamed herself for everything and could barely see the other girls in the eyes when talking to them. She even talked about not being able to concentrate on school because she felt so bad. But she also talked about how boring it was to be alone, she felt lonely because Popipa was her everything. She wanted to text Rimi and apologize but she felt too scared, which is normal and I think everyone has done that. Arisa feeling relieved that RImi was healthy and in school really shows that she is a caring person and the fact that she didn't hide it is proof that she's developed. I mean, she even liked Kasumi hugging her!! Arisa apologizing, in the end, made it all worth it because she recognized her wrongdoing and owned up to it. Thank you for coming to terms with who you are and accepting it, Arisa <3

And last but not least, Rimi, my best girl. Seeing her run out of practice made my heart shatter. This girl is so helpful and always does her best. Even when she was home from school because she was sick, she was working on their new song. Seeing her worry about Arisa made me realise what a heart of gold she has. While she was obviously still hurt because of what Arisa said, she recognized that something was going on with Arisa. Yuri telling her that she had to solve this problem on her own and her solution being a song that they can perform together made me feel very happy. Double Rainbow is her feelings towards the rest of Popipa. She wants to be in the present and with Popipa she got a chance at being herself. I love her so much I honestly can't express it all in words. I wish her the best and I hope to see more character development from her. Love you Rimi <3

In its entirety, Double Rainbow has been a rollercoaster but I've enjoyed the ride. Popipa means so much to me and their music will continue to inspire me. Kasumi, Saya, O-Tae, Arisa and Rimi I love you all very much and I hope I will see more of your journey <3

Ok- here’s my random Gacha pull in the midst of all the Valentine Letters 😅

Really satisfied with what I got. After all, Astronomy Hina is such a cute card plus The Cowboy Tomoe card is really helping out with my “having no cards of Afterglow” phase
