The items are mostly returned to their original places when she drops a folding fan, mutters a curse and bends down to pick it up. Unfortunately Yukina has the same idea. Their foreheads collide and Arisa yelps and slides backwards across the floor like a fish flopping on land.

“I am so sorry!”

“No, I—”

There’s a beat, and then Yukina chuckles softly. Arisa groans.

“You’d think working at a shrine would’ve made us better at this.”

“Well …” Yukina primly dusts herself off while Arisa slots the fan in its rack and resists the urge to knock over the display and knock herself out in the process. “We managed somehow. And that is what we’ll continue to do, no?”

There’s no room for doubt. Her tone makes that clear. She’s not even talking about anything more profound than trying to avoid accidentally bashing your skull against someone else’s in public, but Arisa finds herself slipping again, into believing—even after it shot her down and still couldn’t quash her foolishness once and for all.

“And Ichigaya-san?”

She pulls herself out of the thought. “Yes?”

“Thank you. For—For everything you did.”
