Wow, everyone. I can’t believe it. Today is the 28th of July, otherwise known as my one-year anniversary on BanG Dream! Girls Band Party. (Yes, I know it’s pretty late cause it’s 7 p.m. for me, but I wanted to wait until later to post this.)
I’m going to post kind of a timeline of my Bandori journey, so expect this to be verrrryyyyy long. Most of you have probably already heard the story of how I got into BanG Dream, but I’m going to say it anyway cause really, why not? (~ Yup, I’m weird--~)
On Scratch (@CallieCornet and @TeiraSumisu02 and @Kokichi_kin on here know which one lol, but I’m not going to share my username for privacy reasons-- you’ll probably be able to find it though. Oooof), I was super into voice acting (and I got back into it recently.) I did a whole bunch of voice auditions all the time and I did a lot of roles for little animated series and webcomics and things.
CallieCornet happened to be making a Bandori comic dub, and she thought I sounded good for some characters, so she commented on one of my auditions, asking if I could try out for the dub.
As soon as I started viewing the audition project, I was kind of disappointed. I’d seen a lot of weird anime voice auditions before, and I thought this would just be the same. I watched the introduction videos for the bands to get familiar with their voices as CallieCornet told me to, and I still wasn’t really sold.
Then she linked me to where I could find the comics we would be dubbing, and they were (are!) absolutely adorable. I read all of them several times and started to get to know the Bandori characters.
I was cast as Kanon, Ran, and Arisa, and that’s when I discovered there was a game of BanG Dream. (Hard to believe I had been binging the comics forever and not even realized . . .) It was May at the time, and I was still saving up for my iPad, so I couldn’t download it. Yet.
I didn’t listen to the music much or look at the cards since I didn’t understand what they were, so my main source of BanG Dream information was the comics, and I then started writing a fanfic (not sure why, since I basically knew nothing about Bandori.) I still read that fanfiction and laugh my head off over how terrible it is.
Finally, on July 26th, I downloaded the app. (I only started playing on the 28th, though, so I call this my anniversary.) I immediately fell in love with the gameplay, doing gachas (poor old me, blowing all of my starting stars by doing dumb solos), events, the characters . . .
. . . And then I’ve gone from there. BanG Dream is literally one of my favorite things on the planet now. The characters, the stories, their lives-- they’re all a part of me. It’s like I know them personally. The music is all absolutely amazing, and playing BanG Dream even led to me learning some Japanese (still working on it since I’m definitely not very good at it~) and learning all about Japan and its foods and culture! (Mochi. Mochi. Moch--)
Of course, I also joined BanPa in December after watching the website with no account for months. It’s basically the only social media I do besides Scratch, and it’s the nicest online community ever. Everyone is so supportive and friendly and helpful when you have questions, and it’s an amazing place to post artwork, opinions, or even vents. There will always be someone to listen to you.
Anyway . . . thank you, CallieCornet (even though you’re not active on here anymore) for introducing me to BanG Dream. I literally cannot be more thankful that I clicked that link and went to the auditions. BanG Dream is so amazing and wonderful and I don’t have enough words to describe it. Thank you, everyone, for supporting me through this journey of mine, even though that may sound cheesy.
Well, that’s about it! Oh, and one last thing-- someone picked Scarlet Sky today and I practically started crying. I’ve only played it once since I started BanG Dream since nobody really picks it much, and it was the first song I ever played, so it was really giving me all the feels. And on my one year anniversary of all days! Anyway. I’ll stop now. See you.
Waiiiiit, one more thing. (This is getting annoying, I’m sure . . .) Shoutouts to some people who are especially amazing in this community! I’m sure I’m missing a thousand, but here we go: Kokichi_kin, Chomama, WAFSack, Kasei_, Kaiton, and Eurekaaaaaa! Alright. Bye.
