Roselia Songs That Make Me Cry Part 3
I should mention again that I didn’t read the story until a week ago but when the full version of Song I am. first came out it was like experiencing the end of the Future World Fes arc through the music/lyrics alone. What it was saying was so clear even without the story I just ugh. I’ve loved it ever since. Anyway some Thoughts:
- Noble Rose pt 3 talks about the connection between Song I am. and LOUDER and we also see that reflected musically. Both songs start in D minor, and there are other similarities like Song I am.’s guitar solo later on referencing the synth pattern from LOUDER’s intro. In their respective choruses, however, LOUDER goes into D major and Song I am. into Ab major, signalling Yukina’s departure from the path her father inspired to one she’s forged herself
- The words “I am song” make me bawl my eyes out bc for so long Yukina’s feelings about singing were tied up with what happened to her father and her own uncertainty, to the point where she wasn’t sure she even enjoyed it anymore. But now she’s not just singing—she IS song. She is song itself in its purest form, becoming one with the music. There’s no more hesitation, no more questioning. She’s exactly where she’s meant to be. She!! Loves singing!! More than anyone else!!! (That line and AiAi’s delivery were unnecessary. Why. Have I not cried enough)
- The bridge UGHHH the way it suddenly goes quiet and switches back to the original key signature like a reminiscence of childhood . . . that’s the image I get anyway. Like, it’s peaceful, Yukina’s vocalising as if she doesn’t have a care in the world just like she must’ve done at the very beginning, and she’s remembering that feeling, remembering what it is to love singing for its own sake and nothing else, and then . . . that low, quiet almost-whisper of “Song I am.” It KILLS me I tell you. She’s so HAPPY and doesn’t feel the need to shout it out, she’s perfectly content with who she is and the choices she’s made
- The way the last chorus blasts through the little pause and everyone is standing on that stage playing their hearts out and Yukina holds the last “Shout to the top” high note in utter triumph and reduces my poor heart to splinters. This time when she does the “Woah-oh-oh woah-oh-oh” it’s like the joy is bursting out of her and she can’t contain it ugly sobs
- And of course, the “Louder!!!!! Louder!!!!!” at the very end. (Yeah apparently they each have five exclamation marks. Ok Yukina we get it. It’s like how she thought it was necessary for Song I am. to have a full stop at the end as if her certainty wasn’t clear enough already. I love her.) Self-explanatory but I can think of no better way for her to say goodbye to LOUDER and I like how there’s no instrumental coda and I am not ok someone pick me up off the floor
As you can see I like this song a normal amount
I wasn’t expecting to FC it at all but it happened somehow and it’s a nice addition to the post so yeah
Can I also just say that landing in a room with just Yukinas and Akos twice in a row was a blessing bc Ako repeatedly yelling YUKINA-SAN CHOU CHOU CHOU KAKKOII is the cutest thing ever
