Battle of the Bands 2018

To preface this post, thanks to all the staff, captains, and participants that made this event possible!

It has been a long time since I have participated in a community and to find this one was a blessing. I joined a few weeks before Battle of the Bands, not knowing what it was. But the banner and the constant announcements about it got me interested.

Fast forward to October 27th, the groupies have been sorted and the battles began. I played around 6-8 hours per day with the missions. And spent some quality group time with the groupies. In the Discord chats and through group battles/missions.

I think the format of the event was very well done and I did my best to support my groupies and everyone during this event!

I accomplished every hard difficulty mission in the BOB which....I did not expect. I never thought I could AP a song (I got two during the BOB). I never thought I could get less than 10 greats on a song (I got three during the BOB). I never thought I could hit Goods and Bads purposely (I learned to hit it precisely and how to get it on demand). I never thought I could play songs on EX over 50 times with consistency (I played Redo over 100 times and Heroic Advent about 40 times in a row to complete missions). I never thought I would find a use for my ability to get a very high number of greats (Many missions required this). I never thought I could count the number of non-perfects I needed during the song and make sure I don't get too many/too few.

You can see how much growth this event can be for a player who is decent at the game. It was very eye-opening and a very good event to teach me new things. I think it was really cool that the missions were do-able even for players who may not be pros/gods at Bandori. The balance was really good, even if some missions were pretty demanding. Persistence paid off! (And some of you might know how persistent I can get)

If anyone reading this out there did not get to participate this year, I hope you can make some time next year to give it a shot! It's definitely something you need to experience. Even if Poppin' Party does not win, I think everyone wins in my book. We all had fun, made new friends, and got to be a part of something awesome. I definitely got so much out of the 4 action-packed days of this event.

I've been into Bandori for a month now, so I decided to show my 12yo sister the girls with their 1-star portraits. Here is her (extremely judgemental) account:

Poppin' Party:

Kasumi: is she wearing pants??

Tae: she’s pretty, I want to touch her hair

Rimi: she’s cute!

Saaya: she’s cool, I want to touch her hair

Arisa: she a tsundere

Afterglow:

Ran: she’s cool

Moca: she looks sketchy

Himari: she reminds me of some character but I can’t remember

Tomoe: I’ve got a bad feeling about her (nooo what)

Tsugumi: she looks like a waffle

Hello, Happy World!:

Kokoro: her hair looks like dried spaghetti. she looks like Lillie (from Pokémon lmao)

Kaoru: she looks like Mom (????)

Hagumi: when I saw her I thought she was on fire. Her hair looks like a Cheeto.

Kanon: Awwwww...Is she wearing pants? [no it’s a dress] I don’t trust her...

Misaki: is this greyscale??? I want her hat

Pastel Palettes:

Aya: hhhhHHHHH SHE’S MY FAVORITE

Hina: oooh shes one of the magical girls! (??) I like her too, she looks cool. I think I just like colorful hair.

Chisato: she reminds me of an egg (?)

Maya: the hat looks like one you have, but yours is pink!

Eve: (shrugs) she looks normal. Too normal to be important. (What nooo)

Roselia:

Yukina: is she rich? She sure looks very rich.

Sayo: she looks so annoying. I already want to punch her in the face. (wait WHAT NOT MY BA B Y)

Lisa: she looks even more annoying. Is she rich? (W HA T)

Ako: is she a demon?

i know everyone memes about the three dummies being a bunch of... well, dummies, but i just wanted to say that i love all three of them anyway.

hagumi? my precious orange daughter! i've already talked at length about why i love hagu, but she's a total sweetheart hhh

kaoru? my favorite ikemen character of all time, especially because of her well-executed gap moe. she's adorable and ridiculously kind, despite her flamboyant ouji-sama~ moments and her hilarious misquotes of shakespeare.

kokoro? i love her! she's way more complex of a character than people even give her credit for. she's highly observant, but still such a genuinely good person - it's hard to be so pure when she's filthy rich, y'know? it makes me happy to know she genuinely wants to spread around happiness.

they're just all adorable and even though everyone likes to ignore them in favor of pushing up misaki and kanon for maintaining sanity in the group, i honestly think this iconic trio is what gives hhw its heart. that fun, zany, happy vibe that we all know hhw for wouldn't exist in the way we know it without them. and honestly, that realization for me is what led to my favorites changing as much as they did recently.

in conclusion: sanbaka? more like sanbest!
